Gearheart Telephone provides basic residential and business telephone service in Grethel, Harold, and Wheelwright, including the surrounding communities of: Beaver, Betsy Layne, Bevinsville, Buckingham, Bypro, Hurricane Road, Ivel, Melvin, Stanville, Teaberry, Toler, Tram, and Weeksbury.

Residential Telephone Service

Residential customers receive single-party, flat-rate, voice-grade telephone service, including touch-tone dialing and access to:

  • Long-Distance Services
  • Operator Services
  • Directory Assistance
  • E-911 Emergency Services
 

Approximate Monthly Cost:

  • Residential service: $10.58 per month*
  • Single-line business service: $18.33 per month*
  • *Rates subject to applicable taxes and fees.
 

Lifeline Assistance Program

Eligible customers may qualify for savings through the Kentucky Lifeline Program, a government-supported program that offers:

  • Up to $12.75 off per month on qualifying telephone services
  • Free toll-limitation services for approved residential customers
 

Who Qualifies?

Customers may qualify if they participate in one or more of the following programs:

  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Medicaid
  • Federal Public Housing / Section 8
  • Veterans Pension Benefits
  • Survivor Pension Benefits
 

Required Documentation

To verify eligibility, customers must provide one or more of the following:

  • Prior year’s tax return
  • Current income statement or pay stub
  • Social Security benefits statement
  • Veterans Administration benefits statement
  • Retirement or pension benefits statement
  • Unemployment or Workers’ Compensation benefits statement
  • Divorce decree or child support award

Documentation must cover one full year or three consecutive months within the previous 12 months.

 

Federal Poverty Guidelines (2021)

Eligibility may also be based on household income:

  • 1 person – $17,388
  • 2 people – $23,517
  • 3 people – $29,646
  • 4 people – $35,775
  • 5 people – $41,904
  • 6 people – $48,033
  • 7 people – $54,162
  • 8 people – $60,291

For each additional household member, add $6,129.

Note: Lifeline benefits are non-transferable, and only one discount is allowed per household.
